Naharlagun, Jan 13: The Galo Welfare Society (GWS) observed its Annual General Body Meeting (AGBM) and the 21st Foundation Day on January 9 and 10 respectively here at the Galo Heritage Centre-cum-Mopin ground in presence of a host of dignitaries, patrons, advisers and members.
Minister-Industries, Skill Development, Textile & Handicrafts etc. Tumke Bagra who is the Chief Patron of GWS attended the AGBM along with the patrons, advisers, CEC members and executive members of district units. GWS President Er. Tanga Kena inaugurated the stalls installed by the participants of GWS Skilling Galo Programme followed by felicitation of district unit delegates. The Annual Activity Report and Audit Statement 2020 were presented by General Secretary Gomar Basar.
Addressing the AGBM, Bagra while stating that progress of the Galo community should not be allowed to be affected by petty issues, advised that the issue of district delimitation must be addressed properly and assured his help in sorting out matters related to cooperative societies. Adviser Dr Emi Rumi while appealing to the community members to work for protection of the environment opined the GWS must have a strong Constitution. Mokir Ori, also an Adviser advised the incumbents to emphasize on crisis and conflict management and cited examples of successful resolution of past crises.
The GWS Draft Constitution was presented before the house by Ar. Mojum Bam and Moi Bagra. The draft will now be placed before Chief Patron, Chief Adviser, patrons/advisers, district units, frontal organizations and all concerned for submission of suggestions within a stipulated time frame. After a threadbare discussion a resolution was adopted to conduct the next GBM with participation of all stakeholders within 6 months to finalise the Constitution which will be further submitted for approval in the next Galo Bane Keba (GBK). 
President, GWS Lower Siang district unit Rekar Doye emphasized on harmonious relationship between Galo and Mising communities and advocated that the issue of permanent headquarters of Lower Siang should be resolved involving the GWS. The GWS needs to take the initiative for resolving Arunachal-Assam border disputes, he said, while advising for constitution of a GWS Border Affairs Committee to manage inter-state border tensions. He also advised the GWS to penetrate into grassroots level by constituting GWS Banggo units. An in-depth vision document and process of works related to Galo Heritage Centre-cum-Mopin ground at Tarajuli, Naharlagun was presented by Member, NMMPC Dr. Jego Ori. General Secretary, GWS Lohit unit Er. Modo Padu presented a detailed status report of the Mopin ground at Tezu measuring 3000 sqm and appealed to Galo Gumin for generous contribution for its development. 
21st Foundation Day celebrations saw the participation of MLA 13-Itanagar AC Techi Kaso, Secretary-RWD, Skill Development, IPR, Planning & Investment Nitu Tsering Glow and Additional Secretary (Education) & Director-DoTCL Ranphoa Ngowa as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and Special Guest respectively. The MLAs from the community, executive members of various Clan Based Organisations (CBOs), district units, GPF, GSU and GYO attended as special invitees. Chief attraction of the day’s celebration was the felicitation of academic and sports achievers of 2020. A total of 56 toppers of Class X/XII exams, various entrance exams, UG & PG gold medallists of UGC-recognised universities, PhD awardees and APPSCCE 2017 achievers were felicitated. Sportspersons who have brought laurels for the state in national and international level competitions (a total of 5) were felicitated. Besides these, 55 participants of the Skilling Galo Programme (Baking-20, Tailoring-20, Handicrafts-15) and the torch bearers of the GWS library movement for augmentation of school libraries in four Galo inhabited districts were also felicitated. An online Galo folk tales competition encrypted pen drive in audio-video mode was released on the occasion and the representatives of all Galo CBOs were felicitated.
Acknowledging Galos as a progressive community, Kaso recalled his close association with many Galo senior citizens of the Capital Region who were instrumental in its overall growth. A memorandum regarding construction of the cement concrete approach road leading to the Galo Heritage Centre-cum-Mopin ground was submitted to the MLA, which he assured to pursue with the concerned authority on top priority.
A musical night which saw the performance of renowned Galo singers like Gemo Diyum, Tumbi Riba, Rode Karcho, Mapek Rina and Gope Taipodia was the concluding event of the Foundation Day celebrations. GWS PR
