ITANAGAR, Jul 20: Former IAS officer Tagom Darang today died at his residence in Diking, Pasighat, East Siang after a prolonged illness. He was 80 and survived by his wife, three sons, two daughters and twelve grandchildren.
Born to late Takang Darang and late Yapu Darang in Babuk village, Darang had his initial schooling at Kebang Rada (1947), Government School Rottung (1951), Government School Pasighat (1956) and completed his graduation from St. Edmunds College, Shillong. He joined civil services as a Base Superintendent (now known as Circle Officer) on 22nd July 1965 at Khonsa, Tirap district under the North East Frontier Agency (NEFA) administration and rendered his bureaucratic services at various places such as Shillong, Mechuka, Naharlagun, Lumla, Zemithang, Along, Likabali, Pasighat, Yingkiong, Itanagar etc. After serving in various capacities like C.O, E.A.C, Joint Secretary, Director (Land Records), Deputy Commissioner and Secretary to Government of Arunachal Pradesh, Darang retired as Secretary (Social Welfare) on 31st November 2006.
As a first generation civil servant of the NEFA era, Tagom Darang will always be remembered by all as a humble person who worked with a vision for the upliftment of the common people of Arunachal Pradesh.
The last rites of the departed soul will be performed in Diking on Wednesday.
