ITANAGAR, July 3: Reacting to the Kimin fiasco, former Home Minister Kumar Waii today urged the state government to build fences along all the disputed boundary stretches between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam to avoid escalation of tension in the future.
“It is very sad to see the ‘state’ of the state, where the Chief Minister is a mute spectator and has failed to protect Arunachal’s territorial integrity. The Kimin fiasco needs to be handled seriously because it’s not only about boundary issues but also about territorial integrity and people in power should stop playing the blame game and immediately erect fences along the boundaries of the two states,” the former HM said while speaking to reporters.
“I have seen the statement of Chief Minister Pema Khandu where he had categorically stated that he had no knowledge about the event and renaming of Kimin, whereas he had a meeting with a top official of the BRO a week before the incident came to light,” Waii asserted. He also claimed that it is not possible to organize such a big event without the knowledge of the state government wherein the Union Defence Minister and the MoS are attendees.
“I don’t want to blame or question any religion or region. But these people become vocal when some indigenous people want to build a church in Tawang on a few square km of land and remain as mute spectators when it comes to Kimin and illegal land encroachment by the Chakmas in Eastern Arunachal,” Waii said, expressing apprehension that if the same attitude by the state government continues, the day is not far when Ruksin will become Dhemaji, Likabali will be under Silapathar and Bhalukpong will be under Balipara.
When asked about the BRO apology, he said that the BRO is not a representative of the state or Central government and as such their apology or clarification is not acceptable. “Instead, anyone from the central, GoAP or Assam should clarify on the issue. Moreover, the blame game is not at all a wise act on the issue,” the former HM contended.
Without naming anyone, Waii also alleged that a few leaders are only interested in doubling their personal financial position and are investing in other states as well as abroad. Meanwhile, the common denizens are suffering due to unemployment and falling income and the state has an overdraft of more than Rs 500 crore in the RBI, the former HM stated.
