New Delhi, Dec 3:  Gabriel D. Wangsu, Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Fisheries, Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs, and Food & Civil Supplies of Arunachal Pradesh chaired a review meeting today on the state’s Agriculture and Horticulture Policy. The meeting held in collaboration with senior officials and experts from Ernst & Young LLP focused on refining the policy to address the state’s unique challenges and opportunities. 
In his address, Wangsu spoke on the necessity of prioritizing skill development to empower farmers and youth. He stated that without such focus, even the most well-designed programs would fail to achieve their objectives. He advocated for the ‘Catch Them Young’ initiative to encourage a new generation of skilled farmers and emphasized the need for transitioning from traditional farming practices to more sustainable and efficient farming methods. 
The discussion included suggestions for standardizing agricultural and horticultural practices, addressing agro-climatic conditions, Arun Millet Initiative, transitioning from jhum cultivation to settled farming and strengthening infrastructure for the agriculture and horticulture sectors. 
Members from Ernst & Young LLP presented an extensive policy framework that outlined key concepts, including increasing horticulture production through the ‘Production Value Chain Concept,’ promoting climate-resilient farming practices, developing infrastructure etc.. The framework also focused on capacity building, branding, marketing and introducing a ‘Hortipreneur’ program to encourage entrepreneurship among farmers. 
The meeting was attended by Ms. Koj Rinya, Secretary of Horticulture, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, along with Ernst & Young representatives Dr. Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Vaibhav Prakash, Ranjan Sinha, Dr. B.K. Sikka, Naman Monga, Tanushree Dutta and Ashutosh Pandey. Other dignitaries from Arunachal Pradesh were also present.
