ITANAGAR, May 20: The Byoda Kiila Aanii Society (BKAS), Ziro felicitated its member Kago Tadi Yasung here on Saturday for receiving the National Florence Nightingale Award from the President of India on May 12 last at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on the occasion of International Nurses Day.

On May 12, Yasung was also felicitated by the Trained Nurses’ Association of India for her distinguished services, while the Arunachal Pradesh Nursing Council (APNC) also presented her with a certificate of appreciation for her contributions towards the continued success of the nursing profession.

Yasung, who is the first staff nurse of the state, was stationed at the General Hospital Pasighat in 1981, before retiring on March 2017 as Matron in the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, Naharlagun. She was also the first president of the APNC from 2012 to 2015.

The members present on the occasion expressed their joy on the achievement of Yasung and said that it was her hard work and dedication which won her the award with 34 other nurses from across the country.

Appreciating members of the Society for acknowledging her achievement, she called on all practising and in-training nurses to work with discipline and dedication. “Your sincerity will not go to waste”, she said, before adding that the oath taken during the capping ceremony should be followed throughout their profession under all circumstances to serve mankind in the best possible way.

The BKAS, Ziro is a group of Apatani women working together to empower women from all backgrounds and communities, and acknowledging their feats to further encourage them.
