Indian Army conducts ‘Know Your Army’ outreach
ITANAGAR, Mar 22: Contending that Arunachal Pradesh has the potential to become the honey producing hub of the Northeast, First Lady of the state Neelam Misra has called for promotion of apiculture in the state.
The First Lady expressed her view while interacting with the lady officers of the Textiles and Handicrafts department today. Apiculture projects in the state will be highly beneficial since it will generate employment for youths and due to low maintenance cost, housewives can generate earnings and become self-reliant, she said. The First Lady suggested the officers to encourage the youths to go for apiculture by availing SFURTI (Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries), which is a ‘bee keeping’ initiative from the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). She also recommended imparting training to them on innovative ideas to make the state's traditional handloom and handicrafts more marketable through SFURTI. Proposal for promotion of sericulture, particularly ‘Ahimsa Silk’, where the insect neither suffers nor dies during making of the silk were also made by the First Lady.
Assistant Director, Sericulture Opung Jamoh Dai and Assistant Director, Textile & Handicrafts Onam Pertin attended the meeting. They further briefed on Arunachal loin loom production, a pet pursuit of the First Lady.
