NEW DELHI, Apr 2: Continuing with her endeavour to promote the traditional art of loin loom weaving of Arunachal Pradesh, the state’s First Lady Neelam Misra today while visiting the National Museum of Charkha at Connaught Place here in the national capital proposed that a similar museum be established in the state that would depict the chequered history of the indigenous art.
Discussing the important aspects of the museum that showcase the history and evolution of the Charkha from a primitive instrument to a symbol of nationalism, freedom movement and empowerment of citizens, the First Lady apprised the officials about Arunachal’s traditional loin loom weaving. She said the indigenous art is a shining legacy of the state’s people which has been passed down through generations by its womenfolk and has remained as a good example of women empowerment. Each and every design and pattern of traditional loin loom weaving of Arunachal is distinctive, attractive and one of its kind in the world and every tribe has its unique colour, design, pattern and style symbolizing respective identities, she said, adding that is has been a time-tested self-employment avenue for the house makers.
Elaborating on the need for having the Loin Loom Museum, the First Lady contended that besides depicting the historical perspective of the traditional art, it will also act as an encouragement for the state’s younger generation to take up entrepreneurship in loin loom weaving through ‘Start-Ups’, thereby leading to the realisation of ‘Aatma Nirbhar Arunachal Pradesh’.
The project will showcase Arunachal’s vintage loin loom items, accessories, photographs and products of all tribes which will be a great tourist attraction too, she stated while calling upon the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) to assist the state in the endeavour. PRO Raj Bhavan
