ITANAGAR, Apr 10: In a rare feat and perhaps for the first time, three female bikers have toured the seven Northeast states in seven days covering 2500 km.
The women bikers namely Nirmali Nath from Assam, Onen Nenty of Nagaland and Rosalynn Lushai from Mizoram accepted the challenging adventure that had the theme ‘Breaking Stereotype and Redefining North East’ and reached Itanagar on April 9. They travelled from Guwahati to Shillong, covered the Silchar-Agartala-Aizawl-Imphal-Dimapur-Tezpur stretch and after touching Itanagar rode back to Kaziranga covering a total distance of 2500 km with an average of 300-400 km daily. Arunachal Pradesh Tour Operators' Association (APTOA) today warmly welcomed the trio in the state capital followed by a felicitation and hosted their breakfast before completion of the tour to Kaziranga National Park. APTOA President John Panye along with Treasurer Michi Rajen extended warm greetings and appreciated the courage and challenging attitude of the young girls on behalf of the stakeholders and Arunachal Tourism.
While sharing the motive for undertaking the tour, the bikers said it was intended to challenge the stereotype concept about women who remain confined mostly within the four walls of home. The tour is aimed at breaking the age-old and outdated belief and for portraying the NE states as safe destinations for tourists and promoting sisterhood in the region.
