TAWANG, Jun 9:Two days programme on "Stakeholders Meet To Facilitate Sharing of Experience, Technology and Exposure to Innovative Ideas" was organised by the Fishery Department, Tawang from June 8-9.
Speaking during the inaugural session, DC Tawang said that though religious concern has negatively affected acceptability of fishery activities in the area, other aspects viz. Ornamental fish culture could be explored. Reflecting on the low landholdings in the district, DC reiterated on the need to sensitize masses to explore various sources of sustainable livelihood other than agriculture. Further, laying emphasis on the importance of conservation of indigenous fish species, he asked the department to take necessary action for the same.
Chairperson Zilla Parishad, Jambey Tsering also encouraged the fish farmers present in the meeting to take up fish culture in potential areas which would not only create avenues for self employment , but would also cater to the local market demand.
During the programme, farmers were taught various cultural practices such as integrated fish farming, trout culture, fish feed preparation, composite culture etc. and were also taken on exposure visit to various govt. fish farms. DIPRO
