ITANAGAR, Oct 29: The family members of the alleged accused IAS officer Talo Potom, currently in judicial custody, held a press briefing today, alleging that the ongoing accusations against him are part of a deliberate and organised campaign orchestrated by certain social groups and individuals with hidden motives.
The family claimed that false narratives and misinformation are being spread to defame Potom, asserting that several respected community members and public stakeholders have already distanced themselves from the controversy a sign, they said, that the issue is being driven by “a handful of people for personal vendetta.”
“We honestly did not wish to appear before the media, but we felt it was necessary to express what is in our hearts,” the family said in a statement. “Our brother, late Gomchu Yekar, is no longer with us. We are deeply saddened by his passing and sincerely share in the family’s pain and grief. We extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers for the departed soul to rest in peace.”
Reiterating their faith in the rule of law, the family emphasized that they are fully prepared to cooperate with the investigation and accept whatever outcome the law delivers. “If Talo Potom has done anything wrong, we will not support him. But if he is innocent, we urge the authorities to ensure justice is served,” they stated.
They recounted that on the morning of October 27, upon learning that the police were searching for Potom, the family themselves advised him to surrender. “By 7:30 a.m., Talo Potom voluntarily surrendered at Nirjuli Police Station,” they said.
Concluding their appeal, the family requested the media and public not to spread false or misleading information. “This is a painful time for everyone. We have faith that the truth will prevail and justice will be done,” the family said.
