ITANAGAR, May 29: In a high-level virtual meeting participated by a number of ministers, IMC mayor and deputy mayor, Itanagar MLA and officials today, it was unanimously agreed that during the extended 7-day period of capital lockdown, stress will be given on intensive testing and mass vaccination.
Home Minister Bamang Felix, Minister Environment & Forest Mama Natung, Minister Education Taba Tedir, local MLA Techi Kaso, Mayor Tame Phassang, Deputy Mayor Biri Basang, Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, Principal Secretary Health Dr Sarad Chauhan, DC Capital Talo Potom, corporators, ZPMs, representatives of APCC&I, Market Welfare Associations and others took part in the meeting.
While stressing on taking forward Covid testings on a mission mode in the ICR, Felix sought cooperation from the corporators to ensure proper awareness so that more people can come forward for testing. The state has already procured sufficient vaccines and more will be procured in the coming days, he said and assured that all eligible would be vaccinated. The Home Minister while stating that lockdown is not the solution, added that it is necessary to break the chain of transmission.
Natung justified the lockdown extension decision and acknowledged the efforts of the frontline workers in the ongoing battle against Covid. The Education Minister informed that the decision to extend the vacation for schools till June 15 has been notified. The local MLA opined for intensification of vaccination and stressed that the state government should try to reach out to the poor and needy during the trying times. We should try to bring in partial lockdown with exemptions and restrictions, he added.
The Mayor highlighted the need for intensive testing in every ward and vaccination for all eligible and assured cooperation on behalf of the IMC. General Secretary, APCC&I Toko Tatung asserted that lockdown is not the solution and urged the state government to give priority Covid vaccination to people running business establishments.

Earlier, the Chief Secretary informed that in the State Disaster Management Authority meeting held yesterday, all members had collectively agreed to extend the Covid curfew for a period of one week w.e.f 5 am of May 31 to 5 am of June 7 to control the spread of the virus. He also informed that testings would ramped up in the entire ICR and vaccination and door to door surveillance activities would begin.
Principal Secretary, Health Dr Sarat Chauhan through a presentation informed that earlier the transmissibility rate rapidly increased with the increasing number of active positive cases. Capital Complex has managed to bring down the positivity rate during the lockdown period, but to maintain it we need to extend it to another one week during which the department would focus on intensive surveillance activities including testing both through Flying squad and testing centres, he informed, adding that they will also focus on tracing, tracking, isolation and treatment and increase the vaccination coverage of 45 years and above at all CVCs.
The other activities the department is contemplating is to increase the number of beds at DCH Chimpu and TRIHMS, installation of oxygen plants at TRIHMS etc. within one week, he informed.
Nodal Officer, NHM Dr Padung informed that the department will start the household survey for vaccination and administer the 2nd dose to the eligible beneficiaries.
