CHOWKHAM, Apr 28: The condition of 4 Km stretch of road between at Chowkham & Alubari is causing extreme difficulties to public of nearby villages as well as commuters due to excessive height of the road, thereby also making the high flood risk zone areas more vulnerable to water logging and flooding in the event of heavy rain.

Though the length of the road constructed by Navayuga Engineering Company Limited (NECL is only 4 four kilometers and hardly takes few minutes to cover earlier, but unfortunately with the worst shape of the road now it takes commuters of Namsai, Lohit, Anjaw and Lower Dibang Valley districts at least 45 minutes to cover adding more misery to emergency medical patients.

However due to stiff opposition by the concern affected people of the area to re-develop the said road again, the work in left at a standstill causing more in-convenience and difficulties to the public.

When enquired over the controversy and suspension of work at the site, CT Mein Local MLA Chowkham cum Parliamentary Secretary Forest & Environment said that the level of road has crossed the roof top of the houses.

“The villagers have started raising voice against the road specification which was going higher. In spite of the fact that the area is flood prone and used to have water logging during monsoon such construction will block the water flowing and will inundate the entire area. The road is not at the cost of the public,” Mein said. I have called DC Namsai, MoRTH officials and Navayuga Engineering Company Limited (NECL) to reduce the height, he added.

Meanwhile the Executing agency Hyderabad-based Navayuga Private Engineering Company engaged in the construction work of the bridge cited rain and other 'unavoidable circumstances' as the biggest reason for the delay in completion.
