ITANAGAR, Dec 22: In a significant counter-intelligence success, Itanagar Police arrested two individuals from Jammu and Kashmir in connection with a high-stakes espionage case involving the collection and transmission of sensitive information from Arunachal Pradesh to Pakistan-based handlers. The arrests, carried out on December 18, have exposed the deep and organised nature of hostile intelligence operations targeting India’s strategically vital northeastern frontier.
Inspector General of Police (Law & Order) Chukhu Apa confirmed the development, stating that the accused were brought to Arunachal Pradesh for sustained interrogation and legal proceedings. With these arrests, the total number of suspects apprehended in the case has risen to five, pointing to the unravelling of a wider espionage network operating covertly across the state.
Investigations have revealed that the accused were allegedly involved in systematic reconnaissance of sensitive locations, including security installations, strategic infrastructure, and movement patterns across both border and interior districts, added the IGP. He also clarified that the case is not an isolated incident but part of a deliberate and organised attempt to penetrate sensitive regions of Arunachal Pradesh.
Emphasising the gravity of the case, IGP Chukhu Apa said the investigation is being pursued with utmost seriousness due to its national security implications. “We are coordinating closely with central intelligence and security agencies. Financial transactions, digital footprints, travel history, and possible international linkages are all under rigorous scrutiny,” he said.
IGP also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements, unexplained photography of sensitive locations, or unusual behaviour by outsiders. Adding that, he also urged rent house owners to take proper documents and identity proof before giving rooms to any outsider, to prevent such activities of espionage cases.
