BOLENG, Jul 1: In view of the recent blockade on the Pasighat-Pangin stretch of the highway near Rottung village in Siang district, a team comprising DC Atul Tayeng, MLA Ojing Tasing, SP and engineers and officials today undertook visits to multiple sites to weigh options for restoring the district’s communication linkages.
The inspection started from Rumgong to assess the Boleng-Rumgong-Pangin route via Patum. After finding the road suitable for movement of light vehicles, instructions were given to EE PWD (Rumgong) and EE PWD (Boleng) to carry out minor maintenance works and check the existing load-carrying capacities of the bridges. The team was joined by an engineer from PWD (Highway Division) at Rottung village to assess the newly excavated alternate road which was an old stone-grave path built and used during the British era and not a part of NH-13. The PWD has started working from the Pasighat end and works at Rottung will begin shortly for a speedy construction.
The team then visited the under-construction Nugong bridge built by the PWD which will connect Pangin to Boleng via Komsing Karo village. The Sanggam Bailey bridge which collapsed a few days ago killing 3 commuters was also inspected to check the feasibility of a foot suspension bridge as a replacement for restoring temporary communication. Meanwhile, a successful repair of optical fibre cables over Siyom river has ensured operational continuity of telecom services after a brief disruption following the bridge’s collapse.
“With new construction works and maintenance of bridges, seamless communication and connectivity to Siang district will be ensured,” the DC assured. DIPRO
