State Cabinet takes key decisions towards decentralised governance
PASIGHAT, Jan 30: In a significant step towards addressing substance abuse through rehabilitation and livelihood support, MLA Tapi Darang launched Project Arohit here today. Project Arohit is a collaborative effort of the East Siang District Administration, Department of Skill Development, and the Department of Industries, Government of Arunachal Pradesh conceptualised by Deputy Commissioner Sonalika Jiwani. The initiative focuses on providing industry-linked training, skill enhancement, and support for entrepreneurial aspirations of recovering youth.
Darang hailed the iniative of East Siang District Administration for fostering self -reliance and spirit of entrepreneurship. Darang, termed drug abuse as a social challenge and stressed that addressing it requires collective responsibility beginning from family, society to all stakeholders. He highlighted the importance of encouraging, guiding and motivating recovered individuals and called for grassroots awareness through Gaon Buras and Panchayat leaders. Referring to Roying village of East Siang district, recognised as a Republic Day “Drug-Free Village” awardee, he urged other villages to take inspiration.
DC Jiwani stated the objective of Project Arohit of “rebuilding lives with dignity and purpose” adding that it has been conceived as an end to end rehabilitation initiative, linking recovery support with skill training & employment opportunities to ensure sustainable reintegration of recovering youth. The District Administration has appealed to departments, institutions and community stakeholders to extend cooperation for the effective implementation of Project Arohit, supporting youth in their inspiring journey from recovery to skills, employment and empowerment.
Superintendent of Police, East Siang District, Pankaj Lamba, reaffirmed that the police department remains committed to curbing drug-related activities across the district, while also extending full support to rehabilitation-centred initiatives such as Project AROHIT.
A Training Calendar for 2026 has been prepared under the initiative, offering a range of courses through RSETI Pasighat,NIELIT Pasighat Extension, Government Polytechnic College Pasighat, Farmers’ Training Centre (FTC), Veterans Suvidha Kendra (VSK),Pasighat and Honda India Foundation under CSR support. The courses cover construction skills, tailoring, agriculture-based practices, computer applications, mobile repair, AI and robotics, cyber security and digital hygiene, among others.
Later , a review meeting of the progress of the 16th NCORD meeting was chaired by DC Sonalika Jiwani with departments and stakeholders where she stressed on collaborative efforts for a drug-free East Siang.
