PASIGHAT, Jun 26: The East Siang District Covid-19 warriors convened an emergency meeting on June 20 last under chairmanship of advocate Taber Tamuk to discuss issues relating to the duties of the Covid warriors following an episode of confrontation with the Superintendent of Police of the district.
After a threadbare discussion, the team comprising members from various East Siang based units/organizations like ABKYW, ESDSU, ABSU, LBSU, BBSU and AMCSU took a resolution of non-cooperation with the District Administration and police in Covid-related activities with no resumption of work until the incumbent SP stays as the district’s police head. “If  the DA fails in the management of Covid cases in the district, we will carry out our activities in a new nomenclature independently. However, if the DA and police in particular fail to handle the crisis and show laxity, we will take up the matter on social media,” the Covid warriors said.
When contacted, SP East Siang Sumit Kr. Jha informed that there were reports that the Covid warriors were collecting fines and manhandling shopkeepers in the name of Covid donations. “I stopped such things immediately and asked them to discontinue their duties. If stopping such illegal activities is equivalent to creating nuisance, I have no regrets in creating such nuisances then,” Jha, the 2017 batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer who spearheaded the war against drugs in the district in coordination with Women Against Social Evils (WASE) said.
