TAWANG, Aug 2: The 5th edition of Dorjee Khandu Memorial district-level badminton championship got underway here today at Monyul Sports Club.
Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi, inaugurating the championship, fondly remembered late chief minister Dorjee Khandu's love and contribution towards the sport and informed that an All India Senior Badminton Championship in the late leader’s name is also being started by the Badminton Association of India.
Tashi also spoke about the commitment of the present government towards encouraging sporting activities in the State by providing employment opportunities and cash incentives to meritorious sportspersons.
Further, exhorting the youths to come forward, the MLA requested the sports clubs of Tawang district to explore ways and means to attract the budding youths and hone their skills through coaching and training camps.
The championship being organised by Monyul Sports Club, Tawang has 110 players and 83 teams participating.
