ITANAGAR, Apr 14:

The Digi Dhan Mela, an initiative to promote digital payment and a cashless transaction was concluded at Banquet Hall, Itanagar on Friday. Among the eminent attendees were Minister for Urban Development etc, Nabam Rebia, as the chief guest while Chairman of State Council for IT and e-governance Gabriel D Wangsu, as the guest of honour, and Chief Secretary, Shakuntala D Gamlin.

“With embracing digitization in our system, Arunachal is marching ahead with the rest of the nation.” said Rebia. The IT revolution would bring in total transparency and accountability by ensuring that corruption is rooted out of the system. It is the essence of true democracy and will thereby make India a vibrant nation, he added.

Rebia also remembered Baba Ambedkar on his birth anniversary stating that, ‘today is a great day to recall the great contribution of this great man. Ambedkar was the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of our Constitution who believed in all the ideals of a true democracy.’

While speaking on the occasion, Wangsu said: “that digitization is one of the most important mission of today’s time. Hoping that e-governance would bring about the much needed accountability, transparency and efficiency in our system.” Digitization would lead to a robust economy that would ensure financial inclusion for all. He thanked everyone for being a part of this noble endeavour, he added.

Chief Secretary, Shakuntala D Gamlin acknowledging the fact that Information Technology has ushered in knowledge and information, thereby empowering the citizens to take control of their own lives. She assured that digitization would ensure that the funds or stipends are electronically transferred to the beneficiary. This would lead to non-diversion or non-leakage of funds which would further ensure that there is no mistrust between the public and the government.

In Arunachal Pradesh, which has its own realities and challenges, Gamlin said, IT must penetrate the Agriculture sector as organic farming is the real game changer. She further urged that each of us need to be responsible as digitization has become the way of life, which can neither be delayed nor denied. She then congratulated the Department of IT for putting up a successful show.

Later an MoU was signed between the Department of IT and M/S PN Writer for data digitization of old records. This was significant as it symboliz the last leg of Paperless Secretariat that was initiated last year to ensure that all government files are processed and decisions are taken electronically by using digital signatures. This would lead to speedy decision making and transparency in decisions will be ensured. The creation of centralized management Information system for employee and pensioner of Audit & Pension department was also launched by the Chief Guest. This would ease the tracking of their pension file. A prize distribution ceremony was also held for the winners of various competitions organized at NERIST yesterday along with handing out Certificate of Recognition to few merchants and government officials for their efforts in bringing in digitization.
