JANG, Feb 8: “Developmental projects will never be thrust upon the people but will happen only with their consent and cooperation.” This was reiterated by Chief Minister Pema Khandu today in a developmental meeting for the 3-Mukto Assembly Constituency of which he is the legislator.
“It is a fact that developmental projects bring with them job opportunities and economic activities that benefit locals. However, we will never impose such projects. It is the will of the people to accept such proposed projects or reject it,” Khandu observed while referring to the proposed hydropower projects in Tawang district which are yet to take off due to various reasons. Responding to the concerns for the delay aired by the panchayat and local leaders of his constituency, the Chief Minister admitted that power shortage in the district has been a major impediment in development. He informed that earlier on the day, the All Tawang District Students’ Union (ATDSU) approached him with the same concern and with the appeal to fast track the district’s power projects. The union while raising the issue of acute power shortage informed the Chief Minister that many of the power projects allotted to the private developers have failed to take off and sought state government’s intervention in this regard. Hearing the grievances, Khandu assured the ATDSU representatives to take up the issue of development of hydropower in the district once again.
Assuring that his doors are always open for discussion on any development related projects, the Chief Minister lauded the hardworking abilities of the locals and appealed for optimal utilization of available resources. “I have already announced that more powers will be conferred to the PRIs during the forthcoming budget session. However, they have to go through a mandatory training for better implementation of schemes and utilization of power and functions,”
he informed while congratulating the newly elected panchayat members of his constituency. He also advised the office bearers of the BJP in his constituency to keep a vigil on implementation of the schemes. “Now that the elections are over, we need to leave party politics behind and work together for those who have elected us,” he said. While assuring that his government is committed to improve the state’s health delivery system and education sector, Khandu advocated for clubbing of schools to improve the quality of education instead of having more schools.
The Chief Minister also appreciated the District Administration and the locals for preserving their indigenous culture and language by incorporating the Monpa dialect in school curriculum. CMO
