ITANAGAR, Jun 7: Amid the seemingly endless battle against Covid-19 pandemic many challenges have cropped up especially for the daily wages earners and amongst all of them the differently-abled persons of the state are the silent sufferers.
As per reports, the state government hasn't released the pension amount to them under the Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS) for the last two financial years. Y Golo, a differently-abled (blind) student who recently completed her class 12 and now taking coaching for higher studies has requested the state government to release her pension so that she could continue her coaching. Another differently-abled and an undergraduate student Lishi Teli informed that for the last two financial years (2019-20 and 2020-21) they have not received their pension due to which they are facing unspeakable problem during the prevailing pandemic. “We receive a mere amount of Rs 20,400 annually as pension under the IGNDPS, but since 2020 we have not received any instalment yet," Lishi said.
The pandemic has broken everyone economically and mentally and for people like us who are helpless, this pension is our only hope, narrated Nido Teji, a differently-abled from Kamle district. When contacted, an official source from the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment & Tribal Affairs (SJETA) informed that the department has already initiated the release of pension and the file is with the Planning Department.
The state government confers 85% share of the pension amount and the Central government gives the rest 15 %. However, at least Rs 5.95 crore for the financial year 2019-20 and Rs 6.7 crore for the financial year 2020-21 is still pending and 15% Central share for both the financial years is yet to arrive, the official source added.
