In a two day visit to East Siang District, the Commissioner, Fisheries, Dr. M Surya Prakash visited and closely inspected the departmental fishery firms, fish seed hatchery, uninstalled cold storage machinery kept in godown and office of District Fishery Development Office, Pasighat in the presence of Er. Tatung Jamoh, MLA 37th Pasighat West cum Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture and Fisheries, Tamiyo Tatak, Dy. Commissioner and Obuk Mize, DFDO today.

 

While inspecting fish ponds, especially the Pane Korong side most of which are lying defunct due to encroachment and human settlement, Prakash directed the DFDO, Pasighat to prepare modalities to check the encroachment by erecting walls and also erect a water supply line to the defunct ponds to reoperationalize them.

 

While DC, Pasighat Tamiyo Tatak suggested for formation of a board while involving fishery experts/scientists from College of Horticulture & Forestry, Pasighat so that all the defunct fish ponds could be used again. Er. Tatung Jamoh, has also directed the fishery department to prepare a detail project report to revive all the defunct ponds and hatcheries. The fish seed hatchery plant which has been defunct since from its construction due to technical defect has also been directed to revive it by raising up the walls of some of the plant rooms.

 

Meanwhile, the visiting dignitaries also expressed dismay over wastage of cold storage machineries which are kept in the store without installation. According to sources from DFDO, Pasighat, the cold storage plant was to be installed at Doimukh, Papum Pare, but it was shifted to Pasighat after installation money were drawn by concern contractor from Papum Pare due to which installation couldn’t be done here. According to official sources, the installation charges for the cold storage are also high. To bring the machine in use, Prakash has suggested DC Tatak to let the machine be used by other department like municipal or college of horticulture & forestry, Pasighat. Prakash has also said that, the available fish pond should be revived in better ways which will also bolster tourism as angling can be done in the big fish ponds.

 

Departmental problem and shortages were highlighted by DFDO, Obuk Mize to which commissioner has assured to look into on need and priority basis.
