MIAO, Feb 6: A public consensus meeting on ‘Eco-Sensitive Zone of Namdapha National Park and Tiger Reserve’ was convened here by the Field Director, Namdapha Tiger Reserve today.

“Besides some restrictions in the notified area under Eco-Sensitive Zone to protect the flora and fauna, there are also various benefits for the people living in peripheral areas and we have discussed in detail with the locals and they have unanimously resolved to support the notification,” the minister informed.
The meeting was convened after receiving a notification from the Union Ministry of Environment & Forest to declare an Eco-Sensitive Zone at Namdapha National Park and Tiger Reserve, Field Director, NTR Tapek Riba informed.
Earlier, it had the status of a buffer zone, but it has now been renamed as Eco-Sensitive Zone, the NTR Director stated, while asserting there is no harm in declaring it as an Eco-Sensitive Zone as the people can carry their agricultural activities excluding establishment of chemical plants, sawmills, mining and other hazardous activities.
He further informed there will be an Eco-development Committee which will supervise the activities within its earmarked jurisdiction.
