SEPPA, Jun 22:East Kameng DC Rajeev Takuk today convened a meeting of DDMA here at Seppa to take stock of the preparedness and readiness with respect to disaster-management aspects of various fronts of district administration in order to tackle unforeseen natural eventualities during monsoon season.

Enquiring about the buffer stock of food grains and other essential items, stock and supply of medicines, position of rescue and emergency force, status of road communication, power and water supply, dangerous level of Kameng river and others, DC urged all the members present to remain alert especially during this rainy season.

He also enquired about emergency control rooms, rapid response team, availability of inventories, machineries, rescue and relief team, evacuation and relief centre, notified relief shelters, vulnerable areas, incident response team and others.

Terming social media, internet, and telecommunication are the fastest mode of transmission of information, DC instructed the DDMO and DySP to keep emergency control rooms opened 24/7 and collect and circulate the emergency numbers to all concerned and public. He further urged all members of DDMA and HoDs to keep their mobile phones on. Suggesting the DDMO to maintain an inventory of equipment available, he instructed the disaster management and police departments to prepare a list of tools and equipment required for emergency and rescue purposes.

DC suggested deploying of PA system-laden vehicle for rigorous announcement for creating awareness among the masses. He directed the DMO and Civil Supply department to ensure adequate stock of medicines and rations respectively. He further asked the DMO to keep mobile health units functional and ensure present of adequate medical personnel at their posting places. Enquiring about the way of supplying food grains to far-flung areas of the district, particularly to Lada, he asked the department concerned to keep track of dropping of food items through sortie in those areas.

Acknowledging that road communication is crucial, DC directed construction agencies and departments concerned to keep all road open by engaging necessary machinery and deploying adequate manpower. He directed the UD and PWD and other departments concerned to keep the drainage clean by ensuring regular clearing of blockages. He directed the Power department to clear the jungle along the HT Lines regularly from Khuppi to Seppa.

Members of DDMA and HoDs present were also took part in the discussion and suggested several measures regarding disaster management.

Enquiring about the present crisis of fuel shortage, DC instructed the petroleum retailer to resolve the issue as early as possible.

Informing that oil tankers are stuck due to landslides and road blockades at several places in West Kameng and Papumpare districts, he further stated that the district administration is in continuous touch with petroleum retailer and other concerned, and doing everything possible to ensure availability of pol items as soon as possible.

It is reported that HSD fuel is now available in the depot
