SEPPA, May 3:East Kameng DC Gaurav Singh Rajawat today convened a meeting of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) here at Seppa to take stock of the preparedness and readiness with respect to disaster-management aspects of various fronts of district administration in order to tackle unforeseen natural eventualities during monsoon season.
Enquiring about the provision for buffer stock of food grains and other essential items, stock and supply of medicines, position of rescue and emergency force, status of road communication, power and water supply, dangerous level of Kameng river and others, DC opined that everyone should remain prepared in advance for any eventuality and urged all the members present to be vigil and alert, especially during this rainy season. “Natural disaster may occur anytime and anywhere without any warning, so we should be alert always,” he said.
He also enquired about the emergency control rooms, rapid response team, availability of inventories, machineries, rescue and relief team, evacuation and relief centre, notified relief shelters, low-lying and vulnerable areas, incident response team and others.
Terming social media and telecommunication services the easiest and fastest mode of transmission of information, the DC instructed the SP and DDMO to keep the emergency control rooms opened 24/7 and directed the DDMO to collect the contact numbers and email ids of all HoDs and the public leaders and circulate the same and the emergency numbers to all concerned and public. He further urged the members of DDMA and HoDs to keep their mobile phones in switch-on mode and appealed them to cooperate and coordinate.
Suggesting the DDMO to maintain an inventory of equipment available, DC instructed the HoDs to prepare SoP of their respective departments and advised them to generate mass awareness about the disaster management through creation of fission-chain of dissemination of information. He also suggested the HoDs to assess the susceptibility of their govt. infrastructures and advised them to undertake necessary retrofitting measures, if any necessitated.
DC Rajawat also directed the health and Civil Supply Departments to ensure adequate stock of medicines and rations, respectively. He further asked the DMO to keep all health units functional 24/7 and ensure present of adequate medical personnel at their posting places.
Suggesting for rigorous announcement through PA system, DC instructed the DIPRO to devise a plan for immediate and quick dissemination of information and alert to masses during occurrence of any disaster events.
Acknowledging that road communication is crucial, DC directed construction agencies and departments concerned to keep all road open by engaging necessary machinery and deploying adequate manpower. He directed the Public Works Department to keep the drainage clean by ensuring regular clearing of blockages. He directed the UD department to ensure regular collection and disposal of garbage, and supervision of cleanliness of township. He directed the PHED to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply. He directed the Power department to clear the jungle along the LT and HT Lines regularly for ensuring uninterrupted power supply. He also directed the Education Department to issue necessary instruction to all concerned for facilitating schools as relief centres or shelters during occurrence of any disaster events.
Members of DDMA and HoDs present also took part in the discussion and suggested several measures regarding disaster management.
Meanwhile, Rajawat also convened a meeting with various NGOs, CSOs and representatives of colonies of the district and appealed them to remain alert and extend their cooperation in tackling any untoward disaster events.
