TEZU, Jul 8: With 16 deaths already and 2nd Covid wave still active, Lohit District Administration and the Health department have upscaled their efforts to contain the pandemic.
According to reports, 2 each in Sunpura and Wakro, 1 from the Armed Forces and 11 from Tezu  have succumbed to the deadly virus since April 17. When contacted, DC Lohit Marge Sora informed that the best strategies to reduce COVID intensity are being applied along with an intensified vaccination drive. “The deaths in the district were due to late reporting and comorbidities. We have been reviewing the situation and after taking adequate stock of cases, lockdown in the township has been extended from 2 pm to 8 am in the morning. The check gate at Digaru is manned 24x7 along with a strict monitoring of  movement of commuters followed by proper testing, the DC disclosed. 
“As of now we have not received any funds for the second wave and the overwhelming support from common people and CBOs is praiseworthy. The DA in this pandemic got Rs 2 lakh and 80 thousand from government officials, Rs 170000 from TR Camp and Rs 2 lakh from the Bazaar Welfare Committee. The Covid Care Centre (CCC) at Tourist Lodge and Botanical Garden have been  designated for Covid positive cases where DG set and all amenities are being provided,” he added.
As per the DA, 6 villages namely  Mawai – I, Mawai – II, Jalukbari, Panbari, Old Pukuri and New Pukuri have reached 100 % coverage for the first dose of vaccination above 45 years and door-to-door vaccination in the three Blocks of Tezu, Sunpura and Wakro has been launched for the left-outs, elderly and differently-abled persons.  To ensure cent percent vaccination coverage, the DA has also announced first prizes of Rs 1 lakh, Rs 80000 for second and Rs 50000 for the third in the Panchayat segment. Meanwhile, the DA has also made an earnest appeal to the CBOs, GBs,  Panchayat members and general public to extend wholehearted support to achieve the 100% vaccination coverage by September 30. 
Local MLA Karikho Kri has also contributed Rs 10 lakhs from his MLA LAD fund to the Health and Family Welfare Department for a smooth management of the  pandemic in Tezu-Sunpura constituency.
