PASIGHAT, Mar 1:  Following fervent appeal for a ban on carom gambling in Pasighat and surrounding areas by organizations, the East Siang district administration has banned the activity and cautioned of legal action for non-adherence.

The development comes after the ABK Women Wing and WASE brought the administration’s attention to the menace caused by the activity.

Informing about the drive initiated by the district administration, Town Magistrate, John Modi informed that, all 25 locations from Raneghat to 2 Mile and Balek-Mirbuk Chari-ali to Jarkong where carom gambling is prevalent have been identified and warned. ‘Non compliance of the order and warning will invite legal action besides confiscation of the items. Checking drive will be intensified shortly,’ he added.

In another achievement, the Women Against Social Evils (WASE) has been recognized for their outstanding social work by the Golden Jubilee Nyokum Yullo Celebration Committee-2017 at Joram recently.

Expressing their gratitude, President, Omem Ering and General Secretary, Joya Tasung Moyong said that the recognition has strengthened their resolve to fight against social evils.

“We had formed WASE with a purpose to work for all the communities living in the district and not only for the Adi community. Many incidents in the past concerning physical and sexual abuse of girls belonging to different communities were brought to our notice but we were restricted to work for them as activists of Anti Drug Committee within ABKWW, hence WASE was created as a separate and independent NGO which is now working for all with full dedication,” said  Moyong.
