ITANAGAR, Jun 20: In a joint statement,  State Nodal Office (SNO) for COVID-19 and District Administration informed that in view of the decline in Covid-19 cases and fatalities, curfew in the Itanagar capital region has been further relaxed by 3 hrs. Also, State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has issued new SOPs.
"However, with this relaxation, we have to be more responsible towards COVID appropriate behaviour. We have to understand that this pandemic hasn’t stopped here, and as per reports third wave is also expected to hit the nation," stated  COVID-19 State Nodal Officer Dr Jampa while appealing people to follow proper SOPs and get vaccinated to avoid the third wave.
In the second wave, mostly youths are the affected group and this new variant is different as well as a peril from the first wave. Within few months, we have lost at least 100 people and mostly had co-morbidity, said Dr. Jampa.
He further urged the people not to believe in any hearsay especially in social media. If there are any doubts public can directly clear their misgivings with the health department.
Speaking on the occasion, District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr M Perme informed that double mutant COVID is more harmful. At least 32 people have lost their lives within May and June due to this second wave and most of them were unvaccinated people. “Usually people don’t come forward for testing unless they get infected , " stated DMO while urging people to volunteer for vaccination.
He also informed that at least 72,000 people in the age group of 18-44 and 45+ years have already been vaccinated. Authority has suggested the entire vaccination centers to continue the vaccination process in both offline and online registration mode. However during this vaccination process, people have to follow COVID- appropriate behavior, said Dr Perme.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner –Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) Talo Potom has informed that the timing for the Curfew has been revised.  From June 21, the curfew will be imposed from 6pm to 5am till the next order. Shops and business establishments on both sides of the highway are allowed to open normally but have to close their shops before 6pm to avoid any inconvenience. He also appealed to the public to follow all the COVID protocols issued by the SDMA.
