ITANAGAR, Sep 22: Consumer Rights Organization- Arunachal Pradesh (CRO-AP) unit has lodged an FIR against the manager of an Itanagar restaurant for violating Food Safety and Standards (FSS) and Consumer Rights Act. This was informed by the President CRO-AP, Achu Bagang during a press conference held today.
He said that action was taken in cognizance of a social media viral case of alleged compromised food quality that was served to a consumer, Tadar Kaming in the restaurant located at Niti Vihar, Itanagar on September 7 last.
Addressing the media personsat the press club here today, Bagang said that the CRO had received a complaint letter from Tadar Kaming on September 8 last,claiming that the restaurant had served him stale food resulting in food poisoning.
“On the very next day on September 9, CRO took the matter to the designated food safety officer to investigate the matter and subsequently, it served a show-cause notice to Mughal Garden restaurant for clarification,” he added. Bagang said that on the basis of the CRO show-cause notice, the Food Safety department had imposed Rs. 5,000 penalty against the restaurant under FSS Act.
He also informed that on September 13 last, an FIR was lodged at Niti Vihar police station against the manager and the case was registered under section 273/336/337/34 IPC, and the matter is under investigation as of now.
Meanwhile, Bagang said that CRO is committed to working for food safety and consumer rights besides also creating awareness on consumer rights in the state.
