ITANAGAR, May 23: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee has extended its support to the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) in the democratic movement against the granting of citizenship rights to Chakma-Hajong refugees in Arunachal Pradesh. Lauding the role of All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) in spearheading the vexed Refugee Issue, the APCC while extending whole hearted supports has termed the granting of citizenship as a social issue of whole state.
Further APCC cautioned that if these refugees are allowed to have Arunachalee status it will not only invite demographic change but will breed socio-economic and political threat in near future.
Castigating Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju for his ineffective role which is the concerned Ministry, the APCC has demanded his voluntary resignation.
The BJP led State Govt should also own moral responsibility as the outcome of proposed granting of citizenship to the refugees is unilateral and dictatorial decision of the BJP High Command (central leadership), the APCC said in a release.
Further, slamming the state government for lapses in security preparedness, the APCC has termed the attack on Director, Audit & Pension on Monday at his office as another instance of ineffective and mis-governance. Recently, an ex-minister was served an extortion notice of ten lakhs by underground outfit but neither the state government nor the law enforcing authority has a say in the matter till date, the APCC said while also seeking the resignation of Chief Minister Pema Khandu.
