PASIGHAT, Aug 13: In a complaint addressed to DIGP (C), SP and OC Pasighat here today by one Md. Billar Ali, camp Romdum, Mebo, an ASI serving at Mebo Police Outpost has been alleged of unnecessary harassment and causing grievous injury besides extorting money from him in the past.
Ali in the complaint said that on the night of July 29 at around 8 PM he had visited the Mebo Police Outpost as some of his acquaintances were arrested by the police. “When I reached the outpost, ASI N.K. Poddar shouted at me and ordered his police personnel to beat me up without any reason. When his team didn’t comply, he started beating me which caused fracture to one of my finger and subsequently I lost consciousnesses.  I regained consciousness at home only and my wife told me that, I was brought home by police”, added Ali who also alleged ASI Poddar of extorting money from him in the past.
While endorsing and supporting the case of Ali, one Maklek Tayeng of Mebo, Romdum town alleged similar atrocities upon him too by ASI Poddar. “As an acquaintance when I enquired the matter of Ali from Poddar over mobile phone, he started abusing me. Next day when I visited him at the Outpost he was not available, but later I came to know that, Poddar had lodged an FIR against me due to which I had to obtain an anticipatory bail.” 
Meanwhile, when contacted, Poddar denied the allegations and said that complaint against him is baseless and motivated.
When asked about the case, Prashant Gautam, SP East Siang, said that he has ordered a departmental enquiry into the matter and assured punishment of the personnel if the allegations are proved.
