 ITANAGAR, Apr 26: Acting on a tip off regarding confinement of at least three minors as child labour in the private residence of Secretary Education, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, Bidol Tayeng, a team led by Chairperson Child Welfare Committee, Kani Nada Maling , Labour Officer Lee Ete and Child Line Coordinator T Tangjang  under the supervision of Police and Magistrate raided the said residence  today.

However, after almost two hours of rescue operation no minors have been found in the residence.

‘We have been informed that at least three minors were being confined  in the  private residence of  Education Secretary  and after approaching for  proper search warrant from Deputy Commissioner we were able to enter the house  to start the rescue operation,’  informed Chairperson  CWC, KN Maling. She further added the during the rescue mission neither Tayeng nor his wife was present in the residence accept few relatives and his son.

When asked  whether the confinement of minors are related to recent  witchcraft case of Pasighat, CWC head  didn’t deny categorically but divulged that the rescue operation  is the action over the reports of  confinement of three minors and video of minors being tortured. ‘High profile people are involved so cannot say anything but as per sources there were three minors, aged  between  10 to 12 years, two locals  and the other one is non APST,’ she asserted. 

‘If reports over confinement of three minors are true than we are really worried about them as we didn’t find them during the rescue operation and there is no clue about them yet, however we will continue our operation to rescue  the three minors,’ she stated. Meanwhile CWC also lodged FIR in Police station Itanagar.

5 arrested; Orgs appeal against granting bail

PASIGHAT, Apr 26:  Acting on the FIR lodged by Adi Baane Kebang Youth Wing recently against 3 main perpetrators and 3 other alleged co-accused in connection with the Pasighat PS Case No. 64/2017 U/S 348/354/34 IPC, the Pasighat police arrested 5 persons this afternoon amidst much tension at Pasighat PS where activists from WASE, ABKWW, ABKYW, ABSU (E) and JMS youths mounted pressure on police to act. 

The five arrested are Osor Moyong Tayeng, Cinthina Moyong, Maksup Yomso, Aido Moyong and Kadum Moyong. The 3 main perpetrators were arrested from the residence of Cinthina Moyong, High Region, Pasighat, while 2 other co-accused surrendered to police after one of the police team raided them at Napit village but returned empty handed.  On rumour of police being pressurized/influenced from higher level not to arrest the alleged perpetrators, the activists of Women Against Social Evils, Adi Baane Kebang Women Wing East Siang along with Adi Baane Kebang Youth Wing, All Bogong Students’ Union (E) and Jering Matkir Society youth members gheraod the Police Station and OC the Pasighat PS right from this morning. The WASE activists also helped the police during the arrest and taking them to alleged accused residence.  

During the time of interrogation to the arrested five by the I/O of the case at PS, the alleged perpetrators were alleged of taking photographs of the women activists present on the ground from the top floor of the PS and also one of the perpetrators threatened them (women activists) of possible revenge. Due to such behaviour of the alleged perpetrators, the women activists became violent which almost led to a tussle. In this connection a joint petition was also submitted to concern magistrate and judge along with DC Pasighat by WASE, ABKWW/ABKYW and ABSU (E) this evening. Following the strong appeal from these organizations the bail plea of the alleged perpetrators were rejected and were put in police custody till April 28 next where they will be produced before the magistrate again. 

While talking to this reporter at PS, Officer-in-Charge Atan Taki and I/O of the case T. Bukar said that, the arrest was made at around 2 PM today and was also produced before the court of JMFC in the afternoon. When asked about any pressure given from higher office to maintain caution in the case, Taki denied of such pressure and added that, the law will take its own course of action.
