ITANAGAR, May 20: The Child Welfare Committee, Itanagar Capital Complex team lead by Chairperson Kani Nada Maling and Members Lee Ete and Oyam Binggep visited the children’s home and specialized adoption agency (SAA) centre run by the Oju Welfare Association (OWA).

The team interacted with the children staying at the home and also inspected the facility and made certain suggestions to improve the services. The chairperson also briefed the staffers about different documents to be maintained under the JJ Act 2015.

Nilav J Gohain and Pura Shanti, Superintendent and Counsellor  of the children’s home respectively, briefed the team about the procedure and various activities being carried out by the Oju Welfare Association and they informed the at present a total 23 children are staying at the home and they are being provided free education at Oju Mission School, Pappu Nalah. During interaction, it was informed that due to delay in the release of fund from the Centre the management face hurdles in carrying out welfare activities. Kunjolata Rajbonshi, Project Manager of SAA also briefed the team.

Later, the team also visited Puriok Colony, Pappu Nalah to get first-hand information and enquire about bonded labourer in their community and interacted with the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Puriok Colony Development Committee, Haye Rahal and Siji Nanu and few others.

Lee Ete, Labour Officer, Headquarters who is also a member of CWC, ICC, explained about the benefits being provided under the Arunachal Pradesh Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board and Advocate Oyam Binggep briefed about Bonded Labour and also told them about CHILDLINE Helpline no. 1098, a toll free no. for children in need of care and protection, and also urged them to spread awareness on the same among the Puriok community. Team was also informed that some of members of the community are still engaged as bonded labourers which have not been reported.
