CHANGLANG, Jun 14: After relentless efforts by DC Dr Devansh Yadav and all concerned stakeholders, Kengkhu village in Changlang district has earned the distinction of becoming a drug-free village.
In a small ceremony today, the HGB submitted a declaration to the effect that the village is now completely free from the menace of drugs. It all started a few months back in February with the launch of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan 2021. At the same time the Kengkhu Women Group headed by its President Bihun Taijong approached the DC with the complaint of drug menace in the village. Addicts were then identified and sent to the de-addiction center in a batch-wise manner. Due to the 2nd Covid wave,
a temporary de-addiction camp was set up first at the District Hospital which was then shifted to the village. ZPM Menpa Haisa who belongs to the same village donated inverters, TV sets etc. for the inmates and fooding was provided by the District Administration.
If we can make the most-affected Kengkhu village drug-free, then we can achieve a 100% drug-free Changlang in a few years, provided we have the support from the communities, the DC said. “Earlier, I have made many attempts but failed. But this Basti model, making one village at a time drug-free has shown results and participation of women, ZPM, public leaders and the community as a whole made it possible,” he added.
The DC also felicitated the Women Group president Bihun Taijong and others with Appreciation Certificates for their outstanding contribution towards making Kengkhu drug-free. DIPRO
