CHANGLANG, Nov 1: In a determined effort to combat pressing social issues, the Changlang District Police recently organized an extensive awareness program targeting the youth and local communities.
This initiative, led by the Arunachal Pradesh Police, covered critical topics such as drug abuse, cybercrime, traffic management, and crime against women. The awareness campaign was conducted across multiple educational institutions.
Through this campaign, the police sought to equip students and community members with the tools needed to make informed, safe choices and protect themselves and others. The sessions shed light on the dangers of drug addiction, explaining how it can often begin with a single experiment and quickly lead to dependency.
With cybercrime on the rise, the awareness drive also focused on the dangers of hacking and phishing. Police officers explained that hackers may steal private information or disrupt systems, while phishing involves tricking people into revealing sensitive information through deceptive emails, calls, or texts.
Traffic safety was another focal point of the awareness program, with a reminder that individuals under 18 are not legally permitted to drive. Those found in violation face strict penalties, including fines up to Rs 25,000 or six months in jail.
The final topic covered was the importance of preventing crimes against women, stressing that the responsibility to protect women’s safety lies with the entire community. Police officers highlighted that any physical relationship with a girl under 18 is illegal, regardless of consent, and could lead to legal repercussions. Misleading women with false promises of marriage is also recognized as a crime under the law. The awareness sessions underscored the need for respect and responsibility to protect the dignity and well-being of young girls.
