SEPPA, Jun 6:The first ever East and West Kameng combined Catholic Convention was held here from June2-6 with the attendance of about 5000 faithfuls.  The convention aimed at empowering the participants to lead authentic and holy lives as good citizens, strengthened by the Holy Spirit.  The activities consisted of prayer, healing sessions and cultural evenings.

Joining the 5000 strong gathering, former Chief Minister, Nabam Tuki appreciated the works of all Christian missionaries who contribute largely to health and education sectors which in turn bring about the peaceful co-existence of various tribes of Arunachal.  Tuki also called upon the gathering to work for the welfare of the State, irrespective of religious diversity and to uphold at all times, the Constitutional values of secularism and brotherhood.  Expressing his dissatisfaction at the Centre, Tuki called “the blanket ban of beef, a mistake in the North East” and wished that the Central Government respected the tribal sentiments.

John Thomas, Bishop of Itanagar, encouraged the gathering to remain faithful to the teachings of Christ, especially that of love for all people.  Taw Tebin, President, APCA, while speaking about the various activities, called upon all present to work for the welfare of all and encouraged the youths present to abstain from the use of drugs and alcohol.
