BANDERDEWA, Apr 24: In a major success against organised drug racketeering in and around the Itanagar Capital Region, Capital Police on Friday seized a cache of suspected brown sugar weighing 199.66 grams which has an estimated commercial value of more than Rs two lakhs, its biggest catch so far.
Police arrested two persons in this connection, Rahul Doley of North Lakhimpur and Dibakar Kuli of Bihpuria in Assam and seized two mobile phones and two motorcycles from their possession. Acting on a tip-off, a team of police led by Deputy SP (Itanagar) Kamdam Sikom and assisted by SIs N Nishant and A K Jha, along with a team of constables under supervision of SP ICR laid traps at multiple locations including at the Dobum river area from where the duo were apprehended. A case under IPC section 21 (B) of the NDPS Act has been registered at Banderdewa PS.
Speaking to the media today, Capital SP Jimmy Chiram informed that investigation is underway due to which further details cannot be disclosed. He however asserted that they are on the right track and hopeful of tracking the kingpin, adding that the arrest and seizure was an outcome of a 'source' developed by the Itanagar unit of the National Anti-corruption and Crime Prevention Council.
Lauding the police team for their efforts, the SP has appealed to the denizens and NGOs to work collectively in fighting the drug menace.
