ITANAGAR, Mar 18: ‘Road Side Pathsala’, an awareness initiative to educate denizens about traffic rules/regulations, avoidance of road accidents and inculcating an ideal behavioural attitude towards traffic signs and symbols was launched in the capital on March 15 last by the Capital Police in collaboration with Hamara Arunachal Abhiyan (HAA).
The awareness campaign was launched in a simple ceremony in presence of IGP-Law & Order Chukhu Apa, DC Capital Komkar Dulom and a team of police officers and personnel led by SP Capital Jimmy Chiram. Besides imparting traffic lessons through PPTs, the participants are provided with pamphlets containing the violation/offence provisions under MV Act, penalties, safety measures, traffic signs and symbols etc. Later, the violators identified on the spot were asked to take pledge to abide by the traffic rules and allowed to go without being fined. This is done with an attempt to make the public aware of the various traffic rules and regulations, the SP said, informing also that the campaign will continue till a perceptible change in behaviour among denizens is observed. The SP further informed that on the first two days at locations near Todo Hotel and Hibro Motors, around 600 denizens participated. On the third and fourth day at spots near HIM PP Naharlagun and PS Nirjuli, around 200 each participated. Along with the awareness campaign, various traffic rules and regulations including the MV Act are also being enforced.
A total of 139 violators were challaned on Thursday leading to a realisation of Rs. 33,400 as penalties, the SP informed, while appealing the ICR denizens to abide by the traffic rules. DIPRO
