ITANAGAR, Dec 28: The executive members of Nyishi Elite Student of Arunachal Pradesh (NESA) were left stumped when on Thursday the Capital administration with the support of police foiled their attempt to hold a motorbike rally in protest against the government for non-fulfilment of their demands.
The rally which was declared illegal by the district administration on Wednesday last, was supposed to take- off from Akashdeep to Nirjuli, but was derailed before it could take off by a contingent of Police led by Capital SP Sagar Singh Kalsi, SDPO Make Bui and Executive Magistrates etc.
Furthermore, the police also seized all paraphernalia carried by hundreds of protesters. However upon insistence by student leaders led by Biri Chatum and Tadar Janu, they were later allowed to go in small numbers but not as a group.
Expressing anguish over the development, NESA President Biri Chatum while stating that the DA has done “injustice” by not allowing them to carry out their democratic right has alleged that when the DA can give permission to other organisations then why are they being denied.
A visibly annoyed Chatum disclosed that no prior information was given to the union by the DA about the ban till last evening and alleged that the DC had delayed in processing their request for permission.
Accusing the DC for playing politics against them under the influence of the government, he said that the DC should treat all equally and do his duty independently without coming under pressure from anyone.
Meanwhile SP Capital, who was also present, clarified that the DA denied their request to carry out a rally as it is anticipated that it will create further chaos in the already congested traffic of the capital city.
NESA has been demanding resignation of Chief Minister, Pema Khandu for failing to fulfil the expectation of the people of the state with support of few charters of demands, which is yet to be fulfilled by the government.
