ITANAGAR, Apr 4:  In an effort to push cashless mode of payment among the business community, the Deputy Commissioner, Itanagar capital complex in collaboration with lead Bank Manager, SBI and the Itanagar Market Welfare Association held a one day workshop on digital payment in Banquet Hall today.     

 Addressing a jam packed gathering of 800 traders from the state capital, Deputy Commissioner Prince Dhawan, spoke in detail of the necessity of having means for cashless transactions in every shop. Stating that due to limitation of POS machine and network issue, few merchants are reluctant to adopt cashless transaction, he stressed on creating awareness among the traders about other options available for cashless transaction. 

The main focus of the workshop was on other options for cashless transaction such was SBI-Buddy, UPI (BHIM APPs) and USSD (unstructured supplementary service data). 

Asserting that the government is trying to restrict cash transaction by imposing penalty on cash transaction above Rs. 2.0 Lakh, Dhawan urged all the traders present to start accepting cashless payments from their customers. He also said that banking apps are also secure and easy to learn and use like other social apps. He stressed that District Administration is making every effort for the beautification of the city, and by going cashless; the merchants can enhance the work culture of the city.    

Answering various question from the enthusiastic traders regarding the issue of Power of Attorney required for opening current account, Deputy Commissioner stated that the solution for it will be worked out soon. Further, he, exhorted the traders to speak up about any issue they are facing, and assured to work out the solutions.

Deputy Commissioner also thanked, President IMWA, Yumlam Achung, for inviting all the traders for the workshop at such short notice and the official of SBI for making detailed presentation on modes of cashless transactions.

The representative from SBI gave a presentation on various options available for cashless transaction and walked through the process of all the options available for cashless payment.         

The traders also availed the facilities of on-the-spot account opening and on-the-spot Aadhaar enrolment during the workshop at the Banquet Hall.          

In a bid to encourage, the Deputy Commissioner, Itanagar has announced cash award of Rs. 8000, Rs. 6000 and Rs. 4000  for the traders who do 50 (fifty) cashless transactions for any amount through any medium except POS machine w.e.f from April 5. The merchants have to submit the transaction IDs to claim the award to the Deputy Commissioner, Itanagar Capital Complex.     

After the workshop, the SBI officials also assured to visit the merchants individually at their shops and help them set up cashless payment modes.

Earlier, the workshop commenced with the welcome speech by Jaspal Singh, Lead Bank Manager, SBI, Itanagar.
