TEZU, Jan 31: A drug sensitization campaign to raise awareness about the use of opium and contraband substances especially among the youth was jointly held by the Brahma Kumaris Tezu & Zonal Hospital.
Speaking as the chief guest, Superintendent of Police, Lohit AK Singh expressed concern over the prevailing situation and stressed on awareness as key to bring positive changes.
“Every year over 30 youths in Arunachal due to drug addiction or road accidents under the influence of alcohol or drugs and are losing their precious lives which is a great concern. Maximum illegal cultivation of opium is recorded in Namsai, Lohit and Anjaw and we have destroyed hectares of poppy cultivation despite stiff opposition but this not a solution. Awareness, counseling, deaddiction camp and alternative crops should be prioritized," suggests the SP further.
Dr S Towang, SMO Zonal Hospital also expressed serious concern over drug abuse and said the Zonal Hospital has set up 10-bed rehab camp which is getting a good response.
Meanwhile, over 100 people benefited from the Free Health Camp where free testing and free medicines were given.
On the occasion, observation of Anti – Leprosy campaign from January 30 to February 13 was also launched.
