TEZU, Aug 5: Cultural and Literary Society of Mishmi (CALSOM) has embarked on a crusade against social evils prevailing in society.
Focusing on opium cultivation and its uses, reform in marriage and ritual system, education, health and hygiene, misuse of social media, increasing number of road accidents and various other social evils were elaborately highlighted during the first day of awareness camp held at Sunpura Community Hall here on Saturday.
CALSOM stands for social reformation, eradication of social evils, preservation of indigenous faith and culture, promotion of literacy for the uplift of the Mishmi society.
Dr S Towang resource person sensitized on health and hygiene and advised each one to firmly follow cleanliness for healthy mind and body. Sailu Billai, Principal, Nimkay Vidya Niketan, suggested spread of education on priority basis to bring comprehensive change in society.
Singalu Chaitom, member, highlighted the issue of addiction which need to be eliminated. Johakso Manyu and Timeso Boo, advocates, also dwelt in length on provision of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and child protection.
Suraj Tayang, General Secretary, explained the misuse of social media where youths post unethical writings and its negative impact.
