ITANAGAR, Jun 26:  In a contradictory statement by BRO, Additional Director General  PK Singh claimed that Kimin is shown to be in Assam, not Arunachal Pradesh on one hand , yet on the other hand Singh stated that State’s DGP had expressed objection to Kimin being identified as a neutral place citing local sensitivity and sentiments.
“As per Google Kimin is in Assam but am not the authority to decide which part of the land belongs to Assam and  Arunachal Pradesh,” said PK Singh here today while tendering apology to the people of Arunachal on Kimin issue in a press briefing.
ADG-BRO while apologising for the mistake of renaming Kimin as part of Assam, stated ‘We did not intend to hurt the sentiments of our beloved brothers and sisters of Arunachal Pradesh in any way. Any action whatsoever happened was completely unintended.'
“The ADGBR (East) during his visit on 15 June last, unintentionally, recommended that the two signboards, one at the helipad and one at the main entrance of ITBP, be made neutral to avoid any controversy arising on the day of the inauguration,” said ADG while informing that in the heat of the moment subordinate officers must have changed the names to avoid any controversy. He acknowledged that DGP, Arunachal Pradesh had objected and asked them not to change the signages too.
“The white pasting over the names of Kimin and Arunachal Pradesh was an unfortunate incident is nothing more than an inadvertent mistake, just happened in the pressure of organizing the event while racing against the time. In no way, BRO had even an iota of malafide intention of hurting the sentiments of the people of Arunachal Pradesh. It should be taken as an unconditional apology, due to the emotive connection that BRO has with the people of the state,” Singh added.
Further he said, The event was initially planned from a place called Huri in Kurung Kumey District of Arunachal, but was shifted to the plains due to prevailing monsoon conditions. The e-inauguration site was chosen due to administrative reasons to facilitate the entire event smoothly. The chosen site also had a helipad and a covered shed to cater for any eventuality due to rains, as had been forecasted.
When queried about the long-pending boundary dispute between Assam & Arunachal, ADG categorically said that till date he was unaware of the dispute and the case is pending in Supreme Court. “As per Google Kimin is still being shown as part of Assam, and he is not the authority to declare which part of the land belongs to Arunachal and Assam as the case is subjudice, asserted ADG, BRO- PK Singh while responding to the question of a journalist.
