ITANAGAR, Jul 26: Famous Bollywood playback singer and composer Mohit Chauhan in partnership with NIVESH, a Delhi-based NGO has contributed Covid relief materials worth Rs 1.5 cr to Arunachal Pradesh under ‘Project Bajrangi’, their Covid relief campaign.
Contributed jointly by Mohit and NIVESH, the relief materials were handed over to Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju. The items include 5000 N-95 masks, 5000 medical kits, 1250 Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) kits and 50 Oxygen concentrators. The team has also extended support to the folk and performing artists of Arunachal who have lost their livelihood due to Covid pandemic by providing over 200 ration kits. “The ration kits will be given to the folk musicians of the state who are struggling to survive amid the pandemic. It is a noble thought to reach out to the artists in a hilly terrain like Arunachal Pradesh where fund flow, resources and all means to earn have dried up with no events to perform,” Mohit said while handing over the relief to Rijiju, who conveyed gratitude to the singer and the NGO for the humanitarian gesture.
Since its inception in April last following the death of an aide of Mohit due to Covid, ‘Project Bajrangi’ has been raising funds through crowd-funding to support hospitals and institutions in refilling  and procuring  oxygen cylinders and concentrators to help COVID patients, frontline workers and their families. As part of the initiative, as of now performing artists in Delhi, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, besides Arunachal Pradesh have been provided with ration kits. The team is also raising funds for extending stipends to the folk and performing artists.
Commencing its journey in 2006, NGO NIVESH works actively with the Central and various state governments to create sustainable livelihoods for the needy through activities related to education, water, and sanitation, culture, literature and animal welfare and health across the country. During the pandemic’s 1st wave in 2020, the NGO extended ration kits to the immigrants leaving Delhi and fed stray animals and in 2021 it provided various Covid-related medical equipment in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan.
