AALO, Feb 12: With the objective of creating interest in traditional art and craft among the new generation, a three-day workshop titled ‘Back to Roots’ organized by the Central Mopin Preservation and Cultural Society (CMPCS) in collaboration with Kong Kong Lige Loyi Foundation (KKLLF), Guwahati commenced today here at the Gumin Kiin.
Making the inauguration, Deputy Commissioner, West Siang Moki Loyi underscored the relevance of traditional art, craft and culture and lauded the KKLLF and CMPCS for the innovative idea. Chairman, KKLLF and a retired Commissioner of Income Tax hailing from Kabu village in West Siang district Doli Loyi, said CMPCS is working on multiple objectives in Guwahati, Shillong and Arunachal Pradesh for the weaker sections of society. Disclosing that the workshop would be made an annual event, he appealed all to take part in its promotional activities. Lyricist and folklorist from the Galo community and Chairman, CMPCS Mijum Lona spelt out the workshop’s aims and objectives. As part of the workshop, girls will be trained on traditional weaving, thread spinning and cuisine having market value and boys will be imparted skills on traditional art like rope and basket making etc. which are widely used during all rituals and festivals.
