Indian Army conducts ‘Know Your Army’ outreach
YACHULI, Feb 2: Yachuli Forest Range under Hapoli Forest Division on Monday organised an awareness camp on 'Forest Fire Prevention' at Government Secondary School here at Mai village in Lower Subansiri district.
The awareness camp was conducted keeping in mind the fact that Yachuli is prone to wild forest fire every year in the months of February, March and April.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Hapoli, Abhinav Kumar, Extra Assistant Commissioner, Yachuli Tana Yaho, Range Forest Officer, officials of Yachuli Forest Range, PRIs and school children attended the programme.
The PRI members and GBs while appealing the officials to take pre-emptive measures to check forest fire highlighted the need to take afforestation drives in collaboration with locals to protect the undisturbed forest area. The Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) appealed to them to be proactive to thwart forest fires so that residents of neighbouring villages can get sufficient water from the local catchment area. She further appealed to the forest department to initiate afforestation drives throughout Yachuli and Mai barren land areas to avoid encroachment of government land. The DFO while lauding the efforts of the locals for their initiatives in protecting natural resources informed that creation of Migo-Joram Village Reserve Forest under Yachuli Range is under process and is expected to be completed within this year. He further highlighted the importance of forest fire prevention and the schemes of the Forest Department from which villagers can avail benefits. A series of awareness programmes on forest fire will be conducted in different villages in Yachuli and Yazali in February, he informed.
It needs mentioning that Mai villagers are active in protecting the forest area and have restricted hunting and poaching through the Mai Natural Resources Preservation Committee within Mai Panchayat jurisdiction. DIPRO
