ITANAGAR, Jun 17:
The Green Arunachal Foundation (GAF) in a release has expressed resentment over the alleged unethical authentication made by the Chief Secretary Office that the plot proposed for construction of Greenfield Airport at Hollongi belongs to the Chakma refugees and they are the rightful owners of the said land.
Ridiculing the claim made by CS office, GAF alleged that a misconception that lingers on even today is the belief that the de-reservation of a portion of Hollogi vide Durpang Forest Area Boundary Notification was done specifically for Chakma re-settlement.
“Only a small stretch between Magoni and Chengmara rivers was allotted for their re-settlement, in total ten designated blocks and till today no Chakma refugee has the right to possess land in Arunachal Pradesh,” asserted GAF Chairman Takam Tatung.
Also referring to the statement made by MoS for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, where he spoke in favour of granting citizenship to the Chakma refugees, GAF alleged that it is unfortunate and unethical that Rijiju opined in favour of the refugees at a time when thousands of local indigenous people are rendered landless.
While terming the statement as totally uncalled for, GAF further sought both MoS and CS to officially withdraw their statements and urged both the central and the state governments to look into the matters on a serious note.
