ITANAGAR, Dec 24:

The Abotani Clan Organization (ATCO) on Sunday announced a 12-hour capital bandh on December 29 next as its first phase of movement, which will be followed by a 24 & 36 hour bandh on January 10 and 17 next in protest against the state government’s failure to create a separate department of Abotani Tradition and Cultural Affairs.

Reiterating its pending demands, President ATCO, Yamra Tara while clarifying that the organizations is not against creation of DIA or DoKA, however has sought equal treatment and development of all tribals in terms of fund allotment, schemes and other required facilities.

Expressing shock over the proposed decision of the government to create post for 100 Bodhi teachers while neglecting other Abotani Languages, Tara called for creation of 100 languages teachers post for each Abotani clan to preserve its valuable scripts, culture and traditions, which he pointed are on the verge of extinction.

‘In comparison to other clans in Arunachal, Abotani descendents are in majority but unfortunately there is nothing concrete to preserve the rich heritage as a result most traditions and cultures are on verge of extinction,’ he asserted.

Tara also demanded the Government to initiate  action in shifting  the  regional branch of NHPC from Guwahati to Itanagar  while considering many Hydropower projects NHPC is undertaking in the state.
