ITANAGAR, Apr 28: One Tana Nekam a resident of village Dullung, Balijan under Papum Pare district has been allegedly threatened by the Assam Administration to vacate the legally occupied 46,022 square meters of his private land under the domain of Arunachal Pradesh located at Dullung under Balijan Circle on April 20 last.

Subsequently on April 21, he was allegedly served an eviction notice to immediately dismantle the developed properties on the land and sternly warned that failing to do so the administration will be compelled to carryout eviction.

The private land has been legally allotted to Tana Nekam by the state government dated on 03/03/2011, vide no. DC/LM/LPCX-82/11 as per his possession certificate (LPC) and being a legal owner of said plot of land, Nekam has also developed the land by planting rubber trees there as part of afforestation plan.

Meanwhile sensing the gravity of the situation, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has strongly appealed to the district administration of the Papumpare in particular and the state government to look into the matter seriously and communicate with its Assam counterpart.

Also criticizing the state government for showing negligence in resolving the long vexed Arunachal-Assam boundary issue since long, the AAPSU has expressed resentment that the district administration did not deploy a single officer from Arunachal Pradesh to represent it there and protect the life and properties of Tana Nekam and his family in spite of information given to the Deputy Commissioner, Papumpare by Officer In-charge, Balijan.

Earlier the Supreme Court had also constituted a local boundary committee in 2006 headed by justice Ret Tarun Chatterjee to examine and settle the long interstate boundary dispute. But despite the matter being subjudice before the Supreme Court for the final decision and the two states have been asked to maintain status quo with regards to boundary issue, the Assam Government continuously is trying to trespass the boundary of Arunachal, added AAPSU.

While taking strong note of the illegal trespass, the AAPSU has strongly appealed to the Assam government to maintain status quo otherwise the act of evictions and encroaching of boundary will violate the direction of Supreme Court order and create unnecessary problems between the people of the two states in coming days.
