YUPIA, Dec 18: An interstate Assam-Arunachal coordination meeting held at Gohpur, Assam today in SDO office Gohpur to maintain peace along the interstate boundary.

During the meeting both parties suggested for regular interstate border meeting with outreach programme, information sharing, joint patrolling and exploring mechanism to ensure cordial relation between the two states.

Addressing the meeting, DC Papum Pare, Tai Kaye urged his Assam counterpart to uphold mutual peace and trust between Papum Pare and Biswanath district of Assam as good neighbours.

Informing the house that the interstate relation has been by and large peaceful, Kaye however said that the recent attempted eviction drive by Assam forest division is not in the interest of both the states. He also added that the long standing issue is sub judice in the Supreme Court on the basis of Assam -Arunachal Local Boundary Commission Report.

Airing their views, Deputy Commissioner Biswanath district, DJ Kalita and DFO alleged that Arunachalees are in the habit of encroaching Assam forest reserve, to which DC Papum Pare reiterated that Assam must maintain status quo on the basis of Local Boundary Commission Report within 0 km to 3 km along the working boundary in favour of Arunachal Pradesh and 3 km to 5 km in favour of Assam.

Furthermore, Kaye made it clear that for lasting peace and understanding his Assam counterpart must equally maintain status quo in understanding the parameter of human sentiment.

He further urged upon Assam to remove and shift illegal Forest Protection Camp at Radaso set up recently which is in violation of coordination meeting held previously.

The DC and DFO Biswanath agreed in principle to take up the matter with Assam government for removal of Forest Protection Camp at present site. The DC Biswanath told DFO Assam to be in close touch with DFO Papum Pare to sort out problems amicably in good faith.
