ZIRO, Mar 15: Hundreds of ASHA workers under the banner of All Arunachal Pradesh Accredited Social Health Activists' Association (AAPASHAA), Lower Subansiri unit today staged a protest outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner here in the district headquarters seeking better compensation among other demands.
Speaking to media, Secretary, AAPASHAA, Lower Subansiri Tage Yani while narrating the plight of the ASHA workers said that being honorary volunteers they don’t receive any salary or honorarium and the incentive they get in the name of compensation is also just Rs 2000, that too only after submission of monthly reports. “With such a meagre honorarium, it is difficult to sustain. Hence, the ASHA volunteers are praying to enhance their incentives as salary,” Yani said. “We have submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner seeking intervention and besides urging for an enhancement of the honorarium we have also appealed to the authority to regularize or promote the ASHAs to any higher post such as ANM or any other eligible post as they have been working for a long period, attending various training programmes and discharging the assigned duties and responsibilities promptly,” he added.
Along with the above demands, AAPASHAA has also sought a framework under which if during duty hours any accident takes place, the government should provide compensation to the said ASHA worker.
Moreover, we have also appealed to the state government to extend reservation for the ASHA volunteers in Group C posts such as Cook, Sweeper and Attendant up to 60% quota under the Health department considering their performance and other requisite qualifications, Yani informed.
